DX3S Good Radio?

Postby Drey » Mon Oct 31, 2011 9:37 pm

Looking to upgrade at least one of my trucks from my Traxxas Link Radio. Since I won a Spektrum SR3520 awhile back I figured I'd better take a look at spektrum radios.

Looking at the DX3S radio is seems to look pretty good and has alot of features and a decent looking LCD Screen. Not sure If Ill get the package with all the telemetry stuff, dont really think I need it.

Is the DX3S a good radio?

Also do any of you have the telemetry stuff? Its going on a 17.5 Shortcourse truck to start with. Might be nice for tuning I guess.

What are you guys thoughts?

I had one of these radios and it worked fine for me. Doesn't have every bell and wistle but is still a good radio. Stores like 30 model and only takes 4 AAs to power it.

It isn't backlit so be aware of that. Also, the 1st run of these radios were DSM only so make sure you pick a DX3S that has been updated to DSM2 compatiability. It will will have DSM2 decals like the one on the top of this page:

They also had a issue with the roll selector breaking but they offered free replacement rollers and hopefully they fixed this issue with the 2nd generation of them:

The telemetry stuff is cool but honestly works best for a nitro vehicle. I used the temp sensor to get an idea of what my electric motor was temping at, but you can also rig up the rpm and voltage sensor with a little reengineering. But honestly you can do without it IMO.

Night and day better then what you are running. IF it were me, I would spend the $60 and get a futaba. Exponentials are backwards on Spektrum, and I have never had an issue with Futaba with glitching or anything!

Ive had glitching with spektrum and have it lose bind. Not a big fan
